the next several hours. locally, the effects limited to the north and west of washington, with a wintry mix. later this afternoon when the storm cranks up. new york and boston likely to be dealing with blizzard conditions. more on that during the show here the next couple of hours. there's a live look at your morning radar. i can pretty much promise you not a great morning commute. if you're to the north and west, looking at that wintry mix. you can see the pinks and whites, up to 70 towards leesburg and frederick. reports of that wintry mix, and even a little snow. in fact, some of our viewers have written in in the past few hours and said up to about 3 inches of snow to the west overnight. we have reports of snow covered roadways, that kind of thing. definitely need extra time coming in from the west. heavy rain will pile up on your roadways, localized issues with the heavy rain this morning across the region. this is part of our storm

system. for us, we'll likely see the wintry mix transition to a cold rain today, with highs to the upper 30s to about 40. local temperatures, 36 reagan national. 33 dulles. and 35 at bwi marshall. just above freezing and that's a major player in the forecast over the next couple of hours. the red you see, let's talk about the big picture, the red, those are blizzard warnings. blizzard warnings from new york city to boston. that includes providence and hartford. could experience 18 to 24 inches plus of snow over the next 24 hours. areas in pink, most of new york, that's a winter storm warning. and locally we're dealing with this winter weather advisory and overnight the weather service included howard county and montgomery county, and loudoun county under a weather

advisory until 11:00 this morning. there's your forecast. clouds by 5:00 p.m. though the winds will pick up. that will be another story. gusting to 40 miles per hour later tonight as the storm cranks up. more details coming up in a few minutes. let's do traffic and julie wright has your latest on the roads. >> on the southbound side of i- 95 we're finding wet pavement with rain. this is where i have not one, but two separate accidents. southbound i-95 after lorton before route one. two left lanes tied up at the scene. delays are building heading southbound. a lot of cones. vdot on the scene with a roll back, tying up the two left lanes southbound. second crash occurred closer to route one. the two right lanes blocked. coming southbound on i-95, zigzagging past these accidents, making your way towards fredericksburg. northbound heavy out of

stafford continuing to woodbridge. 395 below speed as well. coming from the beltway headed to king street. closer to the beltway north into d.c. dealing with wet pavement. we have problems to report, stalled car in the right lane. accident activity southbound bw parkway 410 in river dale. that's a check of your fox 5 on- time traffic. we continue our coverage of how the northeast is bracing for the massive storm. >> while our area is not getting hit hard, we are seeing a big impact here when it comes to travel. thousands of flights to the northeast have already been canceled. fox5's sherri ly is live at reagan national airport with more. good morning. >> reporter: good morning. the bulk of those cancellations are expected this afternoon on flights in and out of the northeast. as of now, there's only one 737 flight that will not be going

on. given the magnitude of this storm, it could take air travel days to get back to normal. from philadelphia to new england, all eyes are on this nor'easter. crews are waiting with salt and sands, plows to move the snow. with two to 3 feet in parts of the northeast, hurricane force winds and worries of power outages, this could be a paralyzing storm. people are hitting stores, stocking up. they may be digging out for a while. airlines have canceled more than 2600 flights and travelers are warned to plan ahead. >> significant amount of cancellations. we suggest people booked to fly friday evening and saturday, that they call their airline and check with their airline before they come to the airport. >> reporter: airlines are offering waivers during this storm to rebook the flights for other dates without paying

extra charges. it's not just air travel that is affected. train travel into the northeast is also being impacted, and the northeast trains will stop running friday afternoon, later this afternoon. that's the latest here at reagan national. back to you. >> thank you. in california, the all out manhunt for an ex cop allegedly turned cop killer continues. this morning, police are searching a ski area east of los angeles. that's where investigators found the burned out pickup truck belonging to former l.a.p.d. officer christopher dorner yesterday. police believe he has already killed three people as part of a revenge vow he made after being fired in 2008. he posted a manifesto on facebook and apparently sent a package to cnn host anderson cooper. he is armed and has military training. reports of car bombings in iraq this morning. the death toll is up to 41.

four car bombs exploded in two out door markets. the first bomb hit a pet market. when shoppers tried to run, another car exploded a few yards away. up to 85 are reportedly hurt. it's the latest attack by suspected sunni insurgents. thursday's proceedings on capitol hill were interrupted five times by protestors. brennan says the drones are only used on planned attacks against the u.s. against citizens. >> i never believe it's better to kill a terrorist than to

detain him. we want to detain them to solicit the intelligence from them so we can disrupt follow on attacks. >> the chairwoman of the senate intelligence committee, dianne feinstein says she wants to open more of the hearings to the public. today president obama honors leon panetta. the tribute will take place at joint base meyer henderson. in the meantime, panetta made news yesterday when he said for the first time the pentagon backed the idea of giving arms to rebels in syria. it's been reported hillary clinton and former cia director petraeus asked the white house for permission to arm the syrian rebels but were denied. to d.c. politics now, the city's ethics board says it

will not pursue evidence i found against council member jim graham. the board says further action cannot be taken because the incident happened before the ethics board was created. however, a federal grand jury is investigating graham and the contracting process. fairfax county police say the serial fondler has struck again. take a good look at this updated sketch. now 18 incidents reported in and around springfield since september. all of which have the same suspect description and the same m.o. the man comes from behind and gropes women and runs. he has previously been described as having a beard. nowe's described as acne on his shaving bumps. a maryland mother is facing charges that she murdered her 2- year-old. police say chelsea booth confessed to smothering her daughter, cassidy. they believe she put the toddler's body in a dumpster at

see the yellows and reds, good rain rates there, prince george's county, charles county, friends in southern maryland getting a good dose of rain at the moment. snow off to the north and west. pink and white you see is where the wintery mix continues. that will be with us for a few more hours. advisory north and west of washington until 10:00 this morning. historic snowstorm, and it's a 1-2 combo. energy to the west and developing storm system across the outer banks here, pushing out. east of ocean city later this afternoon. and that's where the explosive development really is going to take place. as this storm wraps up and deepens, as that area of low pressure deepens, we're expecting a lot of snow to develop on the north side of the system. that's why we have blizzard, forecast for blizzard warnings stretching from new york to boston. how much snow are we talking about? with blizzard conditions in boston, could be getting 18 to

24 plus inches. in fact i just saw guides suggesting parts of eastern massachusetts could get up to 30 inches of snow. that's obviously going to be a historic snow storm. not as much in new york city, but enough to cause problems, a foot plus in new york city later this afternoon and tonight before it winds down tomorrow morning. locally, had reports already this morning of our viewers to the west getting 2, 3 inches in some spots. 1to 4 here. not quite done with it. some of our friends to the north and east later tonight, what we call the banding, wrap- around moisture on the back edge could give us another round of light snow later tonight. there's your accuweather seven- day forecast, 42 ed today. not going to feel that warm. winds will really pick up. weekend looks brighter. sunday, 45 with sunshine. about 50 sunday. 50 monday. >> thanks, tuck.

time traffic. the u.s. news rankings for best colleges has become the go to list for many parents and students shopping for colleges. but recent misreported data from five colleges, including one in the district, now raising concerns about the validity of the rankings and reputations of some of the school's features on that list as the best. we are joined by kevin highly, a reporter with inside higher ed, which is an online daily publication, right, about what's going on inside higher education. >> yeah. >> in talking about this, we thought it would be perfect to have a reporter on with this organization. kevin, exactly what is going on? what's the big headline here? >> in the past year, five colleges, four at the undergraduate, and tulane's business school, come out and admit that they have been submitting data that's inaccurate to the u.s. news and world report rankings. that follows on last year of

three reports that were similar. so what you're really having is a broad questioning of whether or not there's more colleges that could be involved in this kind of thing and how does that affect the legitimacy of the rankings. >> george washington was named. now the new news is other schools have been northbound to be doing -- found to be doing this as well? >> yeah. you had emory university, buck hale, george washington, and tulane business school like i said. >> kevin, how dangerous is this? >> i don't know dangerous is the best word, but it's definitely an interesting question, is it going to affect the reputation of these colleges and universities and does it affect the reputation of the rankings, which i think is their big concern. u.s. news is a big concern. as a result, in the last week they've announced they're going to be putting out some new

requirements on the institutions to validate their data. >> what had been the process for supplying data, i presume right to u.s. news? >> yeah. in the past enrollment officers, admissions director at any given institution, would submit the data directly to u.s. news and a couple of surveys the presidents filled out. now they're asking for presidents or some other high level university official to sign off on what's going on. >> was this an intentional misrepresentation as far as you can see in your reporting? >> when we've talked to various schools, some of them -- in all cases, you've got a new enrollment officer coming into the institution and looking at a data, submitting it for the first year to u.s. news and world report, and finding that, you know, these numbers are a lot lower than we thought they were going to be. so in all these instances, the institutions say, one person doing its own thing, and in

some they say it's intentional, some they say it's not. >> what will be the impact do you think on the students that end up applying to these schools? you talked about reputation. what about the students in school now, a senior at george washington, is their record tainted or do they stand on their own record? >> we haven't heard reports of students wanting to transfer out because of this change. a lot of the instances, the misreported data was 15 points off. average s.a.t. scores 15 points off from what the actual data should be. so it's not a huge change. a small and marginal thing. i think what will be interesting to see is this admission cycle whether or not you have more students applying to other -- fewer students applying to these questioned colleges. >> what's the pressure on these private institutions? looks like most are private, all of them. >> yeah. this is really the thing, you've had immense pressure on them to recruit students. you think about a place like

clermont mckenna or emory or george washington, a lot of their money comes from tuition. any given year they have to fill their class. they need to bring the tuition revenue and one way to do that is to have a reputation as being a good destination for students. >> so moving forward, how reliable does this ranking system look? >> so we interviewed admissions officers and we asked whether or not you think other schools are cheating on the rankings report. and 91% of admission officers said they thought other schools are cheating. we had 1% of respondents admit they were cheating themselves. so i think there's kind of a broad questioning of whether or not we should hold these rankings as legitimate. >> kevin kiley with inside higher ed, thank you for being here. >> thank you. >> complicated issue. we'll be right back.

rain and wintry mix north and west of town. 3inches to the west of washington this morning. parts of our area got a nice snow. locally, wintry mix. i had a little slush on my windshield this morning in montgomery county when i left for work. not talking about a major deal here. but farther north and east you get, the worse the conditions will become later today. >> so pay attention. >> let's get to it. wintry mix around here. winding down, still off to the north and to the west where we're getting reports of light wintry mix. you can see let's call it 95 and east still getting rain showers as our storm really cranks up now. earlier had heavy rain in southern maryland. rain will continue on and off for the morning. afternoon kind of cloudy, and it's possible later this afternoon and tonight we could see the banding taking place, the wrap around moisture. could bring us a few more showers and perhaps snow showers later this afternoon and tonight. safely above freezing for most

of the area. 37 at reagan national. 33 at dulles. bwi marshall 36 degrees. want to show you advisories. we'll start in the northeast. dark red you see, blizzard warnings for boston, providence, hartford, down to new york city. that's where the snow jackpot will be here over the next 24 hours. 18 to 24 inches expected in those counties in red there. a winter storm warning in counties in pink and locally we're still dealing with the winter weather advisory until 10:00 this morning. combination of freezing rain, sleet, and snow out to the west this morning has slowed the commute. julie will have more on that. seven-day forecast forecast, more sunshine this weekend. windy tonight, windy tomorrow. winds could gust later tonight to 40 miles per hour. as we transition to the back half of this storm, the winds will really pick up. be ready for it. >> thanks, tucker. let's head over to julie wright for a look at your on-time traffic.

>> tucker is right. this wintry mix has plagued us with a lot of accidents and of course the wet pavement causing the slowdowns. 95 on the northbound side heading in from dale city. we showed two separate accidents on the southbound stretch earlier. both have cleared. traffic congested south from 286. new crash in the main line traveling northbound headed to overpass north of lorton road. we'll have more in our next report. 395 well below speed from the beltway to king street. traffic slows again crossing the 14th street bridge. this fellow has been moved to the shoulder in the hov lane. springfield to 236, earlier incident cleared there. southbound on kenilworth avenue, delays before eastern leaving the d.c. line continuing to the 11th street bridge. checking the crash pennsylvania avenue at minnesota avenue, and on the outer loop of the beltway the trip slow leaving college park headed through

silver spring. southbound new hampshire avenue, the signal light has been resolved. that's a check of your fox 5 on- time traffic. thank you very much. we continue to cover this massive winter storm barreling towards the northeast. >> snow is due to start falling any minute now. we've seen pictures of the snow already falling and already it's canceled thousands of flights across the nation. sherri ly is live at reagan national airport this morning with more now. are we seeing the effects already? >> reporter: we are. so far we've seen some flights canceled into boston and hartford. most flights are going out during the morning hours. but by noon, just about everything we can see going into the northeast has been canceled. here at reagan national airport, people are getting out while they can. this morning the last chance for many travelers headed into the northeast to get out before this storm hits, it could paralyze airports from philadelphia to new york and up

to new england. airlines have callings eled 2600 flights flew saturday. 2to 3 feet of snow expected. people are being urged to call ahead and check flights before coming to the airport. airlines are allowing people to reschedule flights without additional fees. some travelers this morning weren't taking chances wanting to get home before the storm hits. >> [inaudible] >> reporter: not bad now, but it is definitely going to get worse. amtrak has canceled service to the northeast this afternoon. remember, the airlines are going to have to reposition those planes. they put the planes in other areas not affected by this storm. once it passes they'll have to reposition them. there's that ripple effect affecting flights throughout the country as well. back to you. >> thank you. now to a developing manhunt

in california. a former los angeles police officer is accused of going on a killing spree. investigators say 33-year-old christopher dorner has a hit list of targets and they already suspect him in the killing of a fellow officer and two others, including the daughter of a retired l.a.p.d. captain. they say the killings are an act of revenge that he supposedly outlined online. he blames his former colleagues for losing his job back in 2008. police closed a ski resort as they continue searching for him. >> certainly he could be anywhere at this point. that's why we're searching door to door. >> dorner is to be considered armed and extremely dangerous. >> he knows what he's doing. we trained him. he was also a member of the armed forces. >> over 100 officers are searching big bear lake, 80 miles east of los angeles. president will honor

outgoing defense secretary panetta later this morning at a tribute. yesterday panetta defended the military's response to the attack on the u.s. consulate in libya last september. he and joint chiefs of staff chair, martin dempsey testified. panetta says time, distance and lack of intelligence prevented the pentagon from acting quicker. the president's pick to run the cia was testifying. but it didn't get off to a smooth start. >> please remove that woman. [inaudible] >> they won't even tell congress what countries we are killing children. >> anti-war activists from a group called code pink interrupted the hearings several times. when the hearings did get underway, brennan defended president obama's counterterrorism policies. the first lady will attend the funeral of a chicago teenager who was gunned down a

week after she performed at president obama's inauguration. hadiya pendleton will be laid to rest saturday. police say the drum majorette was talking with a group of friends last week when she was shot in the back by a stray bullet. so far, no arrests in the case. but it has brought renewed attention to chicago's murder rate and the debate over gun violence in america. a local teenager is in the hospital following a hit-and- run. prince george's county police say the boy was hit by a taxi last night along wheeler road in oxon hill. the driver left the scene. officers later found the taxi about 2 miles away at the southern avenue metro station. they took the driver into custody. charges are pending. the boy's injuries are described as being critical. it is 10 minutes after 8:00 now on this friday morning. still ahead, it's a name chanted all season long, but some people say it's time for the washington redskins to change. coming up, how you can get in

>> so far, so good. >> to seven in your child -- send in your child's picture, go to myfoxdc.com. i feel like we should be whispering. >> so sweet. >> little guy. let's get to the weather. wintry mix overnight has slowly been transitioning to rain north and west of washington. clouds in many cases, as that precipitation shield you can see there continues to kind of scoot off to the north and east. this is that big low pressure system, big nor'easter we've been talking about starting to take shape, and will bring heavy snow to our regions north and east. what can we expect? rain morning hours, wintery mix north and west. this afternoon might be a little drizzle, light rain around. but a lot of clouds as the winds pick up as our system starts to crank up here to our east. there's a bigger look, and again, it's a process we call phasing, where we get storminess to the west and will energize our area of low pressure east of washington

later this afternoon. blizzard conditions new york to boston. they're expecting anywhere from 18 to more than 24 inches of snow in the next 24 hours. big, big event up there. there's your snow forecast. i mentioned snow totals. looks like the jackpot will be massachusetts, perhaps north of boston, where they, in fact i looked at the latest guidance, some models suggesting up to 30 inches of snow in parts of massachusetts the next 24 hours. close to a foot in new york. might be 12 to 14 inches in new york city. 2to 3 inches of snow around here, perhaps 4 inches in a spot or two. we've had reports earlier this morning of up to 3 inches. later tonight, heading to columbia, ellicott city, baltimore, and towards bel air they could be getting more snow as the wrap around moisture could be impacting parts of our

area later tonight. there's your accuweather seven- day forecast, i want to mention the winds, really will pick up later today for all of us in the washington area. will gust up to 40 miles per hour tonight, as the storm really, really wraps up. winds up in the boston area, 65 to 70 miles per hour later tonight. severe storm. that's weather. more details in a minute. let's do traffic with julie wright. >> the wet pavement causing problems here on the highways this morning. northbound i-95 as promised, we found out the latest on this crash, north of lorton. accident before 286, fairfax county parkway on the shoulder. wet pavement and a slow ride from dale city to newington. stalled vehicle on the shoulder, northbound 395 in the hov lanes at duke straight. main line slow crossing over the inbound 14th street bridge. heavy follow from father hurley boulevard. pace doesn't improve until you get to the six-lane stretch.

spending. >> also you have on t h e s h o w senator john mccain who has had a high profile the last couple of weeks. >> that's right. really tough questioning of a former friend, chuck hagel, the nominee for defense secretary, last week, and this week, yesterday, in that hearing was leon panetta and chairman of the joint chiefs, he went after them pretty tough, too. a lot of issues here, benghazi, aid to the rebels in syria, the drone strikes and enhanced interrogation as you mentioned the whole immigration reform issue. lots to talk to john mccain about. >> the interesting thing, we seem to be at a fairly critical time as we get the new secretaries come in, secretary kerry, of course, as well, and some real burning issues overseas that don't seem to go away. >> well, absolutely. and you know, you have all this in the middle east, we used to be able rely on a few friendly

with 2 feet or more of snow. >> it's not only the snow they're worried about, it's also flooding. >> reporter: good morning. if you're not familiar with this area, this is the south shore. it's one of the communities bracing for this blizzard. to give you a sense of conditions now, you can see an angry ocean here behind me. what you might be noticing are strong winds. those are expected to remain throughout the course of this storm. here in the coastal communities, here in scituate, expected to get 18 to 24 inches of snow along with the strong winds. the main concern is coastal flooding, expected to happen tonight during high tide. the worst is expected to be saturday morning just after 10:00. here they have advised all the residents living in this immediate coastal area to

evacuate themselves from their homes just to be safe. officials have also said they're going to begin snow removal from about 2:00 today and will continue that until about 4:00 saturday afternoon. they want residents off the street for that as well. this is a coastal community that really gets the brunt of these types of storms. the residents here are prepared. many have left the area. some of these are seasonal homes. others are boarded up their homes. those who will stay, they're far enough from this immediate area that they don't need to worry about the immediate implications, but they have boarded up their windows as well. all the residents here expecting it to be a very, very bad storm. >> i'm glad we're not in on that. >> i'm a little bit jealous. >> because you want to cover it and it's exciting. >> get in your car now, six hours, you'll probably be in the middle of it. >> i'd probably get stuck on the jersey turnpike, be there

four days. >> then you'd want to come back home. >> exactly. let's get to the forecast. a lot to talk about. want to mention that getting reports of snow mixing in with the rain at jfk airport in new york. that's very first bands of rain that will be, of course become a big snowstorm up there. for us, the rain we had overnight and wintry mix, and got a good dose of wintry mix, particularly west of town overnight, widespread reports of a couple of inches of snow to the west. seems to be winding down, at least for the time being. more rain, perhaps a little more snow this afternoon. for us, we're on the southwestern edge of this storm. rain showers inside the beltway and good soaking rains, southern maryland, calvert county to st. mary's city, getting good rains as well. let me show you what's happening. our big coastal nor'easter just taking shape as we speak.

there it is. again, the actual center of low pressure right there, you can see it off the coast of cape hatteras. what's going to happen, east of ocean city later this afternoon it will get energized by this piece of energy out to the west. as that slides in, slams into this developing nor'easter, the blizzard will really start to take shape. later this afternoon and tonight as that intensifies, lots of snow, blizzard conditions new york and boston. for us, lots of clouds today. the winds will pick up later this afternoon. we could be in for a few more bands of rain, and snow showers north and west later this afternoon and tonight. then the winds, that will be the big story. winds could gust 40 miles per hour plus later there afternoon. here's your futurecast. not raining at 3:00 this afternoon, but cloudy. snow in new york to boston. we've talked about how much they'll get. snow tonight heavy at times new york and boston. wrap around moisture could bring us a little bit of snow

show that really is a pretty meaty and special work. tell me about that. >> it is. it's a really interesting show. there aren't any other shows like it, and i was really pleased when they asked me to be a part of it. it's sort of like a film. it feels way more like a movie than a tv show. the acting is incredible. keifer is awesome, obviously, and it was a great experience. >> your character is another person now who is interested in jake, the boy who has these skills that we all don't completely understand, nor do we completely understand, you know, where your character is from, right? >> yeah. you're never sure what my character is up to. he's hard to put your finger on. yeah, i work for the evil company, which is after jake

for his powers, for his abilities. but at the same time i'm sort of disillusioned with the company and i want out. i want to get out of the company. i want to just go into business on my own. so i think -- so keifer sort of recognizes that i'm against the company, and he wants to team up with me to try to bring the company down. >> you worked with keifer at least part-time on "24". what's it like rekindling your relationship, and was it your work on that show that got you interested for this show? >> it may have been. i'm not actually sure about that. but it was fun to work with him back then, and it was great to work with him this time. it was much more intense this time. we worked for, you know, half a year this time. last time i was just on a couple of episodes. but i actual met him the first time back in, i don't know if it was the late '80s or

something. so i've known keifer for many many years and been a fan of his since "stand by me." a lot of fun. >> it strikes me, many people may remember you, you've worked in many films obviously, "inception," and that, like this, very in some ways, i don't want to say convoluted, that implies you can't understand it, but there's a lot going on there, and there's a lot of mystery that we still have to figure out. are you particularly interested in that type of genre? >> well, i do like suspense. i think suspense is always a really -- like, engaging kind of genre. i like being in suspense films, i like watching them. and i think they both kind of fall into that category. in terms of how complex they are, you know, obviously

hashing out a plan to merge with u.s. airways. the $10 billion agreement would create the world's largest airline when it comes to passenger traffic. the board of each company is expected to meet early next week to vote on the merger. a piece of history from world war ii is going up for sale in new york. original monument commemorating the rising of the american flag at iwo jima will be up for auction in new york. it will be offered later this month and expected to bring in up to $2 million. it was located right here in the district in front of what is now the federal reserve building until 1947. the monument was replaced with the much larger 32-foot statue that you now know sits in arlington. we are taking a moment to share some black history during this black history month of february. as you know, we've been updating the cover note o on our facebook fan page each day to share these facts with you.

periodically. might want to try the next one he's doing. the parade is sunday at 2:00. on monday they're having another celebration here. we'll talk about that in our next hour. we'll eat dumplings until then. see you. >> when i went to the museum, i spent most of the time at the restaurant, so it's good. thank you so much. >> reporter: good idea. >> yeah. see you later. tony. according to the national association of home builders, recovery in the housing industry has reached 70% of the nation's markets. but some industry analysts are insisting on caution not celebration. they say another housing bubble could form because of over building. what could that mean for the metro washington region? joining us now from new york is jerry willis from the fox business network. good morning to you, jerry. good to see you. how are you? >> good morning. i'm great. yeah, i think you actually got your finger on something important there, and that's a possible bubble in this market.

places like washington that are red hot, there's a question whether that can continue. we have constrained inventories. if inventories were to expand, prices would come down. >> in this market you always hear it said, and we've heard this for the last year or so, when it comes to housing and that type thing, somewhat recession-proof. how true is that and how have we rebounded? [ laughter ] you know, we've had a lingering and ongoing recession that hasn't helped a lot of people. what we really need to have a more thorough recovery is more jobs. as you start to see job numbers tick higher, that will help the market. your problem in washington is sequestration could start and you could see some people have to go home, be laid off, lose their jobs, that might not be a help. overall the fundamental trends are in place for recovery in the housing, in this market

place. you mentioned 70% of the markets are in recovery already. prices are up nationwide 5.5% and that's good news. >> that is good news. could we see these builders overbuild to quickly when we just came through this very rough period? >> i think the problem is less overbuilding. the real problem to my mind is that you don't have a lot of inventory and now the market has been dominated most parts of the country by investors. foreign buyers, people who make all cash offers. so that can't continue forever. we need first time home buyers getting into the market place, deciding, yeah i can get out of mom's basement. time to buy a house. that in some places is what we're waiting for. now in washington what's happened, you guys, your prices have rebounded. you're doing very well. washington's population is at the highest level it's been in 25 years. the federal government is growing. that's helping the housing market. the question is, how long can

it go on? tony. >> finally, what markets around the country are still struggling? where are they still having issues? >> let me you what's happening in the markets that got so hard hit by this horrible housing bust. phoenix, florida, parts of southern california. those places are starting to recover now. it's off of low bases. the prices got decimated. you're starting to see improvement there. for people in washington looking for a second home, now is the time to look. still have interest rates at lows. >> very good. gerri willis, thank you for the information. >> thank you. 37 degrees now and six minutes before the top of the hour. it is a friday morning. coming up at 9:00, we are honoring girl scout day with their sought after cookies. >> plus, monitoring that big snowstorm just starting to fall across parts of the northeast. we'll be back right after this with tucker.
